All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Sayre-Doxey Cemetery--Sayre OK Surnames: Rogers, Sanders, Mercer, Price, Prather, Stewart Originally Posted at: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.oklahoma.counties.rogermills/8500/mb.ashx *John Clayton (JC) Rogers, Jr. was born December 23, 1917 in Chillocothe, Texas to Jumelle Drury (Sanders) and John Clayton Rogers, Sr. He passed away August 2, 2007 at Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years, 7 months and 9 days. JC moved with his family to the Delhi community as a child. His father passed away when he was 12 and JC was raised by his mother, brothers and sisters. He graduated from Delhi High School 1936 and continued his education at Southwestern Teachers College before transferring to Oklahoma A & M. In 1942, he enlisted in the US Army and served his country during World War II. He was assigned to the 820th Aviation Engineers and built bomber bases in England prior to the invasion of Europe and went ashore at Normandy 4 days after D-Day. After his discharge, he taught Veteran's Agriculture classes before returning to Oklahoma A & M where he received his degree in Agriculture Science. JC was married to Theresa Mercer at Sayre, Oklahoma on June 12, 1948. He began his teaching career in 1953 as a Vo-Ag Instructor at Cheyenne School where he founded the Ag Chapter. He also taught at Erick School and the Sayre School where he retired in 1981 after a 28 year career. After retirement, JC looked forward to playing golf everyday and enjoyed spending time with his friends on the course. He was a member of Sayre United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son, James Roy Rogers, 2 brothers, Roy and Carl Rogers, 2 sisters, Mary Sue Price and Mable Prather. Survivors include his wife, Theresa, of the home; 2 children John F. Rogers and wife, Denise, of Sayre, Oklahoma and Elizabeth Stewart and husband, Mike, of Mustang, Oklahoma; 2 granddaughters Tara Stewart, of Sapulpa, Oklahoma and Kathy Stewart, of Edmond, Oklahoma, and a host of other relatives and friends. The family request memorial donations be made to the Sayre United Methodist Church, SWOSU-Sayre Campus or the Cheyenne Educational Foundation. Services were held Sunday, August 5, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. at Sayre United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Elbert Shumaker and Andy Taylor. Burial was held at Sayre-Doxey Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service. Casket bearers, Gary Bogges, Glen Hartman, Jim Burns, Greg Hartman, Keith Robertson, Kenny Drake.
