Mr. and Mrs. Andrews were on their way to Wichita, Kansas Sunday afternoon when the accident occurred. Mrs. Andrews was driving the car. She attempted to apply the brakes when the car struck a sand bed and it was believed that the brakes locked. The car turned over a number of times. At the time of the accident they were four miles west of Vici. They were both rushed to the Shattuck hospital where Mrs. Andrews died several hours later. Andrews was only slightly injured. The car was completely demolished. The Litteral-Moore ambulance was called to Shattuck Sunday evening for the removal of the body from the hospital to the local undertaking parlor. They were in charge of all arrangements. Mrs. Andrews had been a resident of Sayre nearly all her life. She was born in Texas but came here with her father and mother when she was a baby. She attended school in Sayre until about two months ago when Andrews bought a clothing store in Cheyenne and she moved with him there to assist him in the business. Besides her husband, Mrs. Andrews is survived by her mother, Mrs. Linnie Nichols, her father, J. S. Cook of Glendale, Arizona, and a sister Eula Cook of Sayre. Rev. A. J. Bradshaw, pastor of the Christian Church, was in charge of the funeral service. Burial was made in the Sayre-Doxey cemetery. ANDREWS, FLETA MAY (20 Nov 1930, Cheyenne Star, Cheyenne, Roger Mills Co, OK): Mrs. Calvin B. Andrews of this city lost her life in an accident that occurred near Vici last Sunday and Mr. Andrews was injured. As no one saw the accident it is not definitely known just how it occurred. It seems that the car turned over throwing Mr. Andrews from the car rendering him unconscous (sic). When he came to Mrs. Andrews was pinned beneath the car. He was digging the dirt away so as to release her when another car came along and assisted him. She was rushed to the Shattuck hospital for aid. Her lower limbs were paralyzed, her back was broken, and she suffered other injuries. After living some six hours after the accident she passed away at six o'clock in the evening. Mr. Andrews suffered only minor injuries and was able to be up Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Andrews had started to Wichita, Kansas where he was shipping cattle and were driving a new car. Mrs. Andrews was buried Wednesday afternoon in the Sayre cemetery in the presence of a large crowd of friends from Sayre, Berlin and Cheyenne where she had resided. Rev. Bradshaw, pastor of the Christian church of which she was a member, preached the funeral sermon. Mr. and Mrs. Andrews moved to Cheyenne several months ago where Mr. Andrews was engaged in the buying of livestock. Mrs. Andrews was associated with Mrs. George Burns in a Beauty Shop. During the time she resided in Cheyenne she had made a host of friends who are grieved by her tragic death. Mrs. Andrews was twenty one years of age and is survived by her husband, father, mother, one sister, besides other relatives and a host of friends.
