All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************ BAKER, DANIEL ASBURY (17 Feb 1930, Monday, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Daniel Asbury Baker was born May 14, 1846 at Selma, Alabama and died February 9, 1930 at Arkansas Pass, Texas. He gave his services to his country during the civil war, joining the confederate army at the age of 15 and serving until the close of the war. After that he moved to the state of Texas. He was united in marriage to Minto Turner in 1877 at Junction City, Texas. To this union were born six children, one, a daughter, Effie Baker, preceded his going. His widow and five children remain to mourn his loss. His children are, Autry Baker, Berlin, Oklahoma; Earl W. Baker, San Juan, N. M.,; Marvin W. Baker and Mrs. Mabel Cummings, Arkansas Pass, Tex; Cassie Baker, San Antonio, Texas. He made profession of Christ in early life. He united to the Methodist church in 1892. He gave his services in the early states of the organization as Sunday school superintendent of the church at Berlin. He was active in community activities. He at one time operated a mercantile at Berlin and was the town's first postmaster. He leaves many friends in the Berlin community that mourn his passing onward. Funeral services were held at the First Methodist church in Berlin, Rev. J. M. Jones officiating. Scores of friends attended the services.
