All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************ BARBRE, THURMOND (Oct 1929, Unidentified Beckham Co Newspaper, Beckham Co, OK): Thurmond Barbre, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Barbre died at his home in Sayre Friday morning at 1:10 o'clock after being ill for the past four weeks. Barbre suffered from pneumonia for two weeks and developed typhoid following that. He was confined to his bed and unconscious for the last few weeks of his life. Barbre was born near Prentiss, Okla., on Buffalo Creek, January 30, 1912. He attended grammar school in Sayre and finished high school here in May 1928. He attended summer school at Weatherford, Oklahoma, twelve weeks during the summer 1928. He spent 30 days in the Citizens Military Training school during the summer of 1927. Barbre attended the University of Oklahoma last year. He spent the summer in summer school at Weatherford. In spite of the fact that he attended college only one year and a summer, Barbre had 62 college hours to his credit. This is considered a very remarkable showing for a boy so young. Barbre was active in all school activities and played the cornet in several bands. Among them are Sayre Boy Scout band, University band, Military band and Southwestern Teachers college band. He was united with the Christian church November 1924. He was active in all phases of the young peoples activities of the church. The funeral was held Friday afternoon at the Christian church with Rev. A. J. Bradshaw officiating. The funeral was attended by an audience that taxed the capacity of the local church. Many sorrowing friends were forced to stand on the outside. Many friends sent floral offerings.
