Bergold, one of the oldest engineers in the employ of the Rock Island, and the engineer who pulled the first passenger train into Sayre, died Saturday night, or rather Sunday morning, while pulling train No. 44, between Canute and Foss. He left this city in apparent good health at 1:30 a.m., and pulled out of Elk City without making any complaint to his fireman about feeling unwell. When the train was between Canute and Foss he suddenly lurched forward, and fell over dead. The fireman pulled the train into Foss where physicians pronounced him dead. Bergold was well known in this city, although his home was at Shawnee, and he was a man highly respected by both his fellow workmen and the acquaintances he made among our people.
