L. Blackburn, was held at the Methodist church, Wednesday afternoon, January 1st, Rev. E. A. Townsend, pastor, officiating. A profusion of flowers from the Mothers' Club, the Eastern Star, the teachers of the public schools of Sayre, and from the little boys and girls of Miss Blackburn's room, made a beautiful appearance banked in front of the altar and laid upon the casket. A touching incident of the services was when the children of the Second grade, of which the deceased was teacher, sang a hymn which she had taught them. The little ones were visibly affected and it was with difficulty that the hymn was sung. The deceased was born July 29th, 1891, at Bethany, Mo., and died Monday, December 31st, 1912, at the home of her parents in this city. A sudden attack of peratonitis (sic) is said to have been the immediate cause of her death. She was employed as teacher in the primary grade of the public schools of Sayre, where she had won the love of her pupils and the respect and confidence of the members of the board of education and patrons of the school, which was attested by the sincere sorrow of our citizens when the news of her sudden death became known. She was a consistent Christian, a member of the Methodist church, and at all times took an active part in church work and in advancing the cause of Christianity. Her death has brought sorrow, not alone to her parents and immediate relatives, but to every home of those who were permitted to know her. The remains were laid to rest in the Doxey cemetery.
