(7 Dec 1911, The Sayre Standard, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): To the friends who so kindly assisted us during the illness and following the death of our beloved husband and brother, we desire to express our sincere thanks and appreciation. Mrs. L. A. Brittain, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Barker. (8 Dec 1911, Friday, The Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): At his residence in this city, on Dec. 2nd, 1911, Judge L. A. Brittain quietly passed away after an illness of less than two weeks with pneumonia. Judge Brittain was a native of Kentucky, born Feb. 6th, 1863. He removed to Arkansas with his parents when about 7 years old. He was a lawyer by profession and since coming to Sayre, about a year ago, has been actively engaged in the practice of law. He was a counsellor for the defence in the cause of the State vs. Jones and worry over that perhaps hastened his death. He leaves a widow and four children, a daughter in Ark. and three sons the latter being at his bedside when the end came. Our well known townsman, A. W. Barker and the Judge were brother in laws. Funeral services were held at the residence Sunday at one o'clock, Rev. J. T. Means presided and the remains were followed to their last resting place in Doxey cemetery by a large concourse of friends. The Headlight extends its sympathy to the bereaved.
