Funeral services for James Marion Broddrick, pioneer resident of the Carter vicinity, were conducted Tuesday from the Carter Baptist Church by Rev. W. L. French. Broddrick died at his home Friday morning (would have been 7th Jan; headstone has death 11 Jan-date buried) near Carter after a brief illness. He was born April 3, 1875, in Grayson county, Texas, and was married in 1894 to Miss Bertha Ann King in Wise county, Texas. They settled in the Carter community in 1904 and never moved from their homestead. Survivors are his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Nellie East and Mrs. Mattie White, both of Sayre; Mrs. Ruth Shelton, Carter, and Mrs. Lydia Green, Adams, Oklahoma; four sons, Bill, Sayre; Tom and Robert, both of Mercer (Merced) Calif., and Arthur, San Francisco and a sister, Mrs. Allie Sweatman, Carter. Interment was made in Carter cemetery by Littrell-Scoggins.
