(14 Sep 1906, Friday, Sayre Standard, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Rachel A. Nelson was born in Meigs Co, Ohio, June 15, 1842. Died at the home of her daughters in Clearfield, Iowa, Aug. 31, 1906. Aged 64 yrs., 2 mos., 16 days. She was married to James E. Brown Sept. 18, 1864. Moved to Ringgold Co., Iowa in 1865, where they resided until seven years ago, when they came to Roger Mills Co., Oklahoma, and resided on their beautiful home four miles south of Grimes, until the death of her husband, which occured (sic) May 8th, 1906. The funeral was held from the old home Sep. 4th, and was conduted (sic) by Odd Fellows of Berlin Lodge No. 137 here of which lodge her husband was a worthy member. The sermon was delivered Rev. D. J. M. Wood, of Elk City. Interment took place at the Wayland cemetery by the side of her deceased husband. Mrs. Brown, being in poor health at the time of her husband's death, returned home to Iowa with her daughters for medical treatment, where she died of cancer of the liver. She leaves five children to mourn her departure. Two children preceeded (sic) her to the great beyond. Four children were present at her death and all were present at her funeral. She was a kind, faithful, devoted wife and her home was always the happiest and best ordered of households. She was the kindest and most self-sacrificing of mothers and her children know only too well what a loss her departure is to them. She was a faithful and affectionate sister, she was a constant courageous friend, a generous and obliging neighbor..
