(14 Dec 1922, Thursday, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): News reaches us of the death of G. A. Burgess, owner of a farm five miles north of this city, and a gentleman who spent a considerable portion of his time here, although always maintaining his home at Monticello, Illinois. Mr. Burgess spent the greater portion of the summer here, and only a few weeks ago left here for a trip to San Antonio, Texas, intending going from there to his Illinois home. While at San Antonio he contracted a severe cold, which became so alarming that he started for home. On reaching St. Louis his condition had become so serious that the railroad people took charge of him, calling physicians, who accompanied him to Monticello. After he arrived home he continued to grow worse and passed away November 27. As mentioned, Mr. Burgess was owner of a fine farm in the Short Creek neighborhood, and well known among the farmers of that section, as well as in this city, and very highly respected. While he was 74 years of age he had enjoyed excellent health, and during the summer remarked to the writer upon his good fortune in that respect. His many friends in this section will extend their sympathy to the bereaved family.
