All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************ CANON, MARY MARIE (26 Jan 1928, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Mary Marie Canon, better known to her friends in Sayre as Marie Wann, was born February 24, 1905, and died January 23, 1928. She joined the Prairie View Baptist church when only ten years old, and lived a true and devoted Christian life. She attended the high school at Sayre. During her senior year she was voted as the most popular girl in high school. On August 5th, 1923, she was married to Tom Canon. She loved her home and made it a cheerful place for all. She was a very loving and devoted wife and mother. She is survived by her husband, a 7 months old daughter, Helen Marie, her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Wann, one sister and one brother, Vera and Richard Wann, and a host of friends. She was patient, brave, and hopeful during her illness. Her illness started from flu of the throat which caused a complication of diseases against which she was not strong enough to fight. She died at the Trisdall (sic) hospital at Elk City where she had been for a week. She was buried at the Doxey-Sayre cemetery. Mrs. Mary Marie Canon, whose home was five miles east of Doxey, died Monday morning at 9 o'clock at a hospital in Elk City, where she had been for about two weeks. When she went to the hospital she developed pneumonia which was the cause of her death. Mrs. Cannon was born in 1905 and attended school in this city and was very known to the people here. the funeral was held at the Doxey-Sayre cemetery on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. A very large number of people attended the services, with Reverend Mr. Rowland, of Hollis, officiating, which were held at the home of the deceased.
