Interment was in the Buffalo Cemetery under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Sayre. Walter Leon, the son of Willie Earl and Mattie Dotson Crook, was born March 14, 1939 in Oklahoma City and passed away Friday, February 1, 2002 at the age of 62. Walter was raised in the Sweetwater area and was married to Sandra Kay Thornton on May 2, 1961 in Miami, OK. They lived in the Sweetwater and Erick are most of their married life with the exception of 10 years in Kansas. Most of Mr. Crook;s working career was ranch work. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1997, his parents, tow brothers and one sister. He is survived by his children, Greg Thornton of Erick, Darren Terry and Robbie Crook of Tonganoxie, KS, Lisa Cox of Sweetwater, Doug Crook of Ottawa, KS, Lynn Battles of Huntington, WV and Christy Benton, Lane, KS; 19 grandchildren: five great grandchildren; two sisters, Juanita Campbell and Nelta Lopez both of Erick and a special nephew who was raised like a brother, James Crook of Sayre.
