All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************ DANNER, JOHN W. (12 May 1927, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): John W. Danner was born in Macon, Missouri, October 11, 1844, and passed away at his home in this city May 5, 1927, at the age of 82 years, 6 months and 21 days. He was married to Electra A. Dove, on February 26, 1868. To this union were born nine children, four of whom preceded him in death, his wife also passing away September 11, 1886. He then married Mrs. Phebe Taulbert on March 16, 1893. To this union one child was born, who passed away March 21, 1916. Mr. Danner joined the army of the Civil War and served until the end. He was a pioneer settler of Oklahoma, coming here in 1900. He sold his farm to the townsite of Sayre. The deceased joined the Methodist church at an early age, being a charter member of the Sayre church, and served as a faithful member until his death. Surviving are the following children: Mrs. J. E. Itschner and J. M. Danner, of this city; Mrs. Hugo Will of Macon, Missouri; C. M. Danner, of Shawnee, Okla.; O. T. Danner of Maude, Oklahoma, who with a number of other relatives and a large number of other relatives and a large number of sorrowing friends to mourn the death of one they loved so well. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church at 3 p.m., on Friday, May 6th, with Rev. T. N. Weeks officiating. Interment was in the Doxey Sayre Cemetery. (12 May 1927, Sayre Journal, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): John W. Danner, age eighty-two, died at the family home in this city Thursday, May 5th. Mr. Danner came to Oklahoma and to this settlement in 1900. Sayre is located on his former farm, which he sold for the town site. He was born in the year 1944 (sic) at Macon Georgia (sic). In 1861 Mr. Danner joined the Confederate army and served during its duration. In 1868 he was married to Miss Electra A. Dove and to this union nine children were born. Four of this number preceeded him in death. In 1893 Mr. Danner married Mrs. Phoebe Laulbey (sic). This union one child was born which passed away in 1916. At an early age Mr. Danner joined the Methodist church and was a charter member of the Sayre church. Mr. Danner was one of the "trail blazers" of this western country and believed in the possibilities of Sayre and this section. The family is one of the best known in this section and the elder Danner was loved and respected by everyone who knew him. Card of Thanks.
