(The Sayre Sun, Sayre, Beckham, Ok, Thursday 19 Jun 1958) East Rites Set Friday at Carter. Services for Jim B. East, Carter pioneer who died suddenly in Carter of a heart attack on Tuesday will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 pm at the Carter Baptist church with Rev. Charles Reed officiating. (Died June 10, 1958 per cemetery). Born July 16, 1896 at Decatur, Texas, he came to Western Oklahoma in 1903 and settled near Carter and has lived in and near Carter since. On April 12, 1919, he was married to Nellie Brodderick (sic) at Carter. He was a veteran of World War I and was a member of the Carter American Legion. Survivors are his wife, of the home address, one sister, Mrs. Thelma King of Midwest City; five brothers, D. East of Clovis, N. Mex., Paul East of Carter, Cleburn East of Yakima, Wash., Earl East of Fort Sill, Merritt East of Santa Ana, Calif., and other relatives. His parents and one sister preceded him in death. Interment will be in the Carter cemetery under the direction of the Moore funeral home.
