(2 Nov 1911, Thursday, Sayre Standard, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): George W. Engle, father of G. K. and E. E. Engle, died at the home of his son, G. K. Engle, in this city Tuesday, October 31st, age 70 years. Mr. Engle was well known in Beckham and Roger Mills counties, having located in the latter county thirteen years ago on a farm near Berlin. For several years he suffered from rheumatism, and it was with the hope that his disease might be benefited that he made a trip to Michigan last August. It was soon after his arrival there that he was stricken with paralysis, and in company with his son, he returned to Sayre about the middle of last September. Since coming home he has been absolutely helpless and confined to his bed. The funeral services were conducted Wednesday under the auspices of the Odd Fellows, and the remains laid at rest in the Sayre cemetery. (3 Nov 1911, Friday, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Died. Geo. M. (sic) Engle, at the residence of his son, G. K. Engle in Sayre, Oct. 31st, 1911. Mr. Engle was born in Lancaster Co, Penn., Jan. 17th, 1841, where he lived to manhood and married. At the outbreak of the civil war he enlisted in the 195th Penn. Cavalry. After the war he moved to Iowa, thence to Neb. and back again to Iowa, which was his home at the time of his death. He was formerly a resident of what is now Beckham Co., having filed on a claim 11 miles N. W. of Sayre. Last summer he made a visit to relatives in Jackson, Mich. and while there was stricken with paralysis from which he failed to recover. He leaves a widow and six children to mourn his loss. Funeral services were held at the residence of his son, G. K. Engle by the Rev. J. T. Means and interment had in Sayre Cemetery under the order of the Odd Fellows of which he was a member.
