Fulton of Doxey, widely known in this county, died Sunday morning about 9 o'clock. Rev. Fulton was in Elk City Saturday and was apparently in the best of health. On his way home, however, he was seized with a congestive chill and stopped at the home of Rev. Abbott who lives about four miles southwest of Elk City. Medical aid was summoned but without avail. It was our fortune to know Brother Fulton intimately and we regarded him as a man who tried, in a simple, unostentatious way to do his duty as a Christian man in all the relations of life. Neither brilliant or profound, his simplicity and evident sincerity carried the weight of conviction. His body was interred in the cemetery at Carter Monday evening. We join his host of friends in mourning his untimely death. - Roger Mills Democrat (Thurs 23 Nov 1905 issue). Rev. Fulton was well known in Sayre and vicinity, and the news of his death came as a shock to his many friends here. He was one of the pioneer preachers of the county and was held in the highest esteem by all who know him. His life was earnest, consistent and conscientious, and although the late years he had not been in good health, he labored faithfully to the end in his chosen lifework. He had lived at Doxey for several years, filling various appointments in the county. To him can be paid the highest tribute accorded to man: "He hath done what he could." --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
