GAITHER, ELWELL M.
(27 Feb 1927, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK):
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Gaither, and Was Born in This City.
The following clipping is taken from the Amarillo Daily News and Globe of
Sunday last:
"A host of friends who crowded the capacity of the First Christian church
yesterday witnessed the last rites for Elwell M. Gaither, 22 year old son
of Police Chief H. L. Gaither, who died Friday morning following a
protracted illness, the crisis of which came three weeks ago.
Attended by the entire police force, members of the city commission and
hundreds of the young man's friends, the services were conducted at 3
o'clock by Rev. F. W. O'Malley, pastor of the First Christian Church.
Mr. Gaither was born in Sayre, Oklahoma, January 26, 1905, came to
Amarillo three years ago and had been employed by a local clothing store
until a short time before his death.  He was a universal favorite both in
business and the younger social circles.  He is survived by his father and
mother, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Gaither, 1911 Tyler street, a brother, Paul
Gaither, and a younger sister."
Mr. and Mrs. Gaither were pioneer residents of this city and have a host
of friends here who will extend their sympathy in this bereavement.
