(26 Aug 1915, Thursday, Sayre Standard, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): The body of Alfred G. Gray, who died suddenly at Darlington, Oklahoma, last Saturday, was taken to Cheyenne, the old home of the deceased, on Sunday, for final services and burial at 2:30 o'clock p.m. Funeral services were held at the Masonic Home at Darlington, of which the deceased was superintendent, on Sunday at 3:00 o'clock p.m. prior to taking the body to Cheyenne for burial. Funeral arrangements were made by Grand Master A. E. Monroney and Grand Secretary W. M. Anderson of Oklahoma City. The deceased was born in Brooklyn, N. Y., October 20, 1858. He was educated in the schools of Brooklyn, Washington, D. C., and at the United States naval academy at Annapolis. He came west in 1881 and settled in the Cherokee Strip. At the opening of the Cherokee (sic)-Arapho country in 1892 he settled in Cheyenne and maintained his residence there until called to take the position at Darlington which he held with honor until his death. Mr. Gray entered the Masonic order in Cheyenne in 1898 under the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of the Territory of Oklahoma. He had the honor of being past high priest of Cheyenne chapter, past eminent commander of Elk City commandery, past grand patron of Oklahoma order of Eastern Star. When the Cheyenne-Arapaho opening was announced by the crack of a gun Gray on a fleet-footed pony was the first to reach the coveted spot and the first to stake his claim. He has ever stood high in the order which will have charge of the last sad rites over his body Monday. (3 Sep 1915, The Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, OK): Alfred G. Gray, who was for several years county clerk of Roger Mills county, died at Darlington, Okla., on August 26 (sic) very suddenly of heart trouble.
