All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************ GUY, ALVA WASHINGTON (13 Feb 1930, Thursday, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Funeral services for Alva Washington Guy, 86, civil war veteran, who died Monday at the home of his son, B. H. Guy, five miles west of Grimes, were held at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon in the First Methodist church at Cheyenne. Rev. C. E. Rhoads, pastor of the church, conducted the services. Legion Conduct Burial. Interment was made in the Cheyenne cemetery under auspices of the Elk City post of the American Legion. Littrell-Moore, funeral directors of Sayre, in charge. Mr. Guy is survived by nine sons and daughters and 28 grandchildren. (20 Feb 1930, Cheyenne Star, Cheyenne, Roger Mills Co, OK): ALVA WASHINGTON GUY. Alva Washington Guy was born March 3, 1843, at Warsaw, Kociusko county, Indiana, and departed this life February 10, 1930, age 86 years 11 months and 7 days. He volunteered for service in the Union Army July 26, 1862 and served three years in Co. B, 18th Regiment of Indiana Infantry. He received his discharge July 20, 1865, at Little Rock, Arkansas. 54 years later his youngest son B. H. Guy was discharged at the same place. This coincidence he was always proud of. He was united in marriage to Isabell Sterling at Wyanett, Illinois, August 27, 1867, who preceded him in death. To this union were born thirteen children, four of whom preceded them in death. He leaves to mourn his passing: James R. Guy, Novinger, Mo.; Henry H. Guy, Novinger, Mo.; Harvey A. Guy, Green Castle, Mo.; Frank A. Guy, Green City, Mo.; John W. Guy, Iowa City, Iowa; William W. Guy, Elk City, Oklahoma; Mrs. Alice Capps, Mount Harris, Colorado; Mrs. Nettie Sweet, Grimes and Benjamin H. Guy of Grimes, Oklahoma, with whom he made his home.
