HAWKINS, DAVIS HENSON
(12 Apr 1934, Thursday, Sayre Headlight Journal, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK):
Brother Davis Henson Hawkins was born in Grand Prairie in Cash county,
Texas, on October 10, 1848.  He passed away in Sayre on the second day of
April 1934, being 85 years, 5 months and 23 days of age.
He was converted and joined the Methodist church in 1885.  He married Miss
Hester Jane Goldsmith of Jacksburrough (sic), Texas, on the 12th day of
March 1875, at Jacksbourough, Texas, and to this union 11 children were
born.  She preceded him in death on the 18th day of January 1934.
He leaves to mourn his passing his children, Mary Carolina Evans, Carter;
Peter Alexander Hawkins, Altus; Henry Bascom Hawkins, Seattle; Bell Lee,
Abiline, Texas; Sarah Alice Thompson, Washburn, Texas; Josephis Hawkins,
Penleton, Oregon; Ed Hawkins, Lockney, Texas; Claude Hawkins, Sayre; Rose
Adams, Reed; Anna Ruby Martin, Sayre; Dot Hawkings, Melrose, New Mexico;
his sister Susan Plumbley, Olney, Texas; and one brother, Pete Hawkins,
Sayre.  Besides these near relatives he has many grandchildren and many
great grandchildren and hundreds of friends in Beckham county who mourn
his passing.
The funeral services were held at the Sayre Methodist Church, April 2,
with the Reverend J. L. Davis assisted by Dr. Rembert G. Smith and the
Reverend Hobson officiating.
Interment in the Sayre-Doxey cemetery with Littrell-Moore in charge.
