(10 Mar 1921, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Last Wednesday night, shortly after the issue of the Headlight had been printed, word was received in this city of the death of Leland G. Hill, at a hospital in Oklahoma City. The remains were brought to this city that night, and funeral services were held from the residence of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Hill, one mile west of this city, on Friday afternoon, with interment at the Doxey-Sayre cemetery. Mr. Hill had been a resident of this city for many years, and was for a number of years in the employ of the Rock Island railroad. When America entered the world war, he volunteered, and went with the corps of engineers, being among the first to reach France, and serving until among the last. He came home in poor health, and although for a time seeming to regain somewhat his former sturdiness, yet a cancer shortly developed which sapped his life blood, the end coming as above mentioned. Mr. Hill was a young man 36 years of age, and highly respected by the people of Sayre, and especially by the railroad men among whom he had worked. ---------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
