WILLIAM H. JENCKS DEAD. The news of the sudden death of Mrs. Wm. H. Jencks was received Friday morning as a shock to the friends living in Elk City. She had been here just the Saturday before seemingly in the best of health. Just before noon Thursday she suffered a paralytic stroke and passed away about six o'clock that evening. Mrs. Sarah E. Jencks, whose maiden name was Austin, was born in Sumner county, Iowa, March 13th, 1878. Died at the old home place near Cheyenne, on May 17th, 1923, aged 45 years, 2 months and 4 days. She was married to Wm. H. Jencks, December 11th, 1895. To this union seven children were born, one dying in infancy. Three boys, Oliver H. Paul R. and Austin L. and three daughters, Mrs. Irene Abbey, of Portland, Oregon, Vera Queen Jencks and Alice Moreta Jencks are left to mourn the loss of a beloved mother. All were present at the bedside when she passed away except Mrs. Abbey. There are also two grandchildren - the little children of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Jencks, whom grandma loved so devotedly. After Mr. and Mrs. Jencks were married they moved to Texas where they lived five years then came to Oklahoma twenty-three years ago filing on homestead and have lived there ever since expect one year they made a trip to Washington. She gave her heart to the Lord when young and her faith was steadfast throughout the years. She was of a hospitable nature and many friends were entertained in the home. She unselfishly gave herself for others and was ever ready to give a helping hand to those in need and to those who were sick. She was a true wife, a loving mother and a good neighbor and her loss will be felt so much in the home and the neighborhood. Besides the husband and children, she leaves a brother and two sisters living in Spokane, Washington, and a brother in Sumner, Iowa, many cousins, a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the home on Friday afternoon where a large crowd was in attendance. The services were conducted by Rev. Kloppenstein. Many floral offerings covered the casket. People attended from different parts of the country and among those from Elk City in attendance were Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Blackburn, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Perry and Mrs. Monroe Bates. Interment was made at Cheyenne cemetery. Many acquaintances from that place met the funeral party there and went on to the cemetery, where they offered sympathy and help to the heart broken family, and the sorrow expressed showed the high respect and love held for this good woman.
