KERMIT (30 Jun 1930, Monday, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Word arrived here early Wednesday of the death of T. Kermit Kennedy, Jr., 25 of Duncan, son in law of Mr. and Mrs. O. B. Thomas of Sayre, following an operation there Tuesday night. Kennedy was rushed to a Duncan hospital where the operation was performed late Tuesday night. He died immediately following the operation. The young couple had made plans to celebrate their first wedding anniversary the night of his death. Due to his sudden illness all plans were done away with and every effort possible made to save his life. At the time of his death, Kennedy was employed as assistant manager of the J. C. Penney company in Duncan. He had been employed in that capacity since the first of the year. He graduated from the Lamar high school in Lamar, Colorado, at an early age and then entered the Kansas University for a number of years before beginning work in a store in Lamar. It was while Kennedy was employed at Lamar that he met Etta Mae Thomas, who was teaching there. They were married June 24, 1929. Mrs. Kennedy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. B. Thomas of this city. Funeral services for Kennedy will be held in Lamar, Colorado, with Rev. T. N. Weeks officiating. Mr. and Mrs. O. B. Thomas, Mrs. R. W. Thomas and Rev. T. N. Weeks left Saturday morning for Lamar to attend the funeral services. Kennedy was well known in Sayre having visited here a number of times during the past year. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
