All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************ KING, LEONA ESTELLE (The Sayre Journal, Sayre, Beckham, Ok, March 1, 1990) Leona Estelle King, 89, of Sayre died Sunday, Feb 25, 1990 in the Sayre Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were Wednesday Feb 28 at 2 pm in the Sayre First Baptist Church with Rev Tom Cooksey officiating. Burial was in the Delhi Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service. Leona, daughter of William and Cynthia Ford was born Aug 22, 1890 in Cook County, Texas. She moved with her parents as a small child to Delhi. She was graduated from college at Southwestern State University in Weatherford. She married Earl King on Oct 3, 1942 in Cheyenne. After her marriage she taught school in Choctaw, west of Erick, Debney, Bulo, Delhi and Sayre. She taught school for 40 years retiring in 1965. She was assistant Beckham County Superintendent for several years. She was a member of the National AARP, member of the retired teachers organization and a member of the First Baptist Church in Sayre. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Earl in 1972, one brother and two sisters. She is survived by one daughter and son in law, Beatrice and Leon Piontkawski of Herndon, Va; one son and daughter in law Lavoy and Hannelore King; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren; four brothers, Ernest and Eldon Ford of Bothell, Wash; Ocie Ford of Jayton, Tex; Nolan Ford of Temple, Okla; three sisters, Minnie Prather and Lola Mae Potts both of Sayre; Juanita Neal of Modesto, Calif.
