(22 Feb 1923, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): MRS. JOHN R. LANE Passed Away Saturday Morning After Several Years Suffering. Mrs. John R. Lane died at 3:30 Saturday morning, at her home on Broadway. Mrs. Lane's death was not unexpected, she having been a great sufferer during the past three years from a cancer, which gradually ate her life away. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Presbyterian church, of which she was a member, and then taken to Oklahoma City, where they were interred in Fairlawn cemetery on Tuesday morning. Mrs. Lane was a pioneer resident of this city, and for many years had been prominent in church work, making a host of warm personal friends, all of whom sincerely mourn her untimely death and join with the Headlight in extending their sympathy to the bereaved husband. (22 Feb 1923, Thursday, Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Death of Mrs. Lane. Mrs. John R. Lane died at the family residence on North Broadway, Saturday morning after an illness of about six weeks. Mrs. Lane was stricken with what was thought to be the flu about six weeks ago, but failing to recover as rapidly as the doctors thought that she should, she was taken to Oklahoma City to the hospital and a thorough examination made of her condition. It was found that a cancer from which she thought that had been cured two years ago, had attained a growth in her lungs and that medical aid was futile. She returned to her home a few weeks ago, and has rapidly declined since until death came to her relief Saturday morning. The funeral services were conducted Monday morning by her pastor, Rev. J. T. Means, after which her remains were shipped to Oklahoma City to be buried in Fair Lawn cemetery by her mother and sister. Besides her husband, Jno. R. Lane, she leaves three sisters, a brother, Mr. Fisher, who came to visit her Friday and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Lane was beloved by all who knew her, and her untimely demise is mourned by the whole town. Possessing an unusually attractive voice, she was always sought in all musical affairs, and gave freely of her talent to each and all the churches after her own. The sympathy of the entire town is extended to her husband in his bereavement. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
