(31 Dec 1925, Sayre Journal, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): James I. Lowry, Sr., seventy year old pioneer of Sayre community, died at his home in this city Sunday morning at 8:45 following an illness of the past three weeks. Mr. Lowry was born August 17, 1855, in Prentiss County, Mississippi, and came to Sayre in October 1919, after living for a period of eighteen years near Delhi, south of this city. Early in life he joined and became an active member of the M. E. Church and lived a devoted Christian life, having served as one of the Church's Stewards the greater part of his lifetime, however in late years he has been too feeble to be active in church affairs. He moved from Mississippi to Texas in 1875. In the year 1880, he married Miss Nancy Kendrick, to this union one son was born, Fletcher C. Lowry, who now resides in Sayre. Nancy Lowry died April 29th, 1885. December 10th, 1885, he was united in marriage with Miss Mattie Smith of Chico, Texas. No children were born to this union. In 1901 they moved to Delhi. James I. Lowry leaves his wife, one son, Fletcher, one brother, R. L. of Waxachie (sic), Texas, two grand children, Lois and Loyd of this city, and a host of dear friends who mourn his passing. Regret on leaving the family was expressed by the deceased, but consoling words were spoken before his departure from this life and he stated he "had no fear of the future." Business concerns were closed during the hour of the funeral and great numbers paid their last respects to the departed. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. T. N.
