She has been ill about four and a half years caused by a stroke of paralysis. Mother Lowry was truly one of the noble women and mothers who came to this country and pioneered. She came to Oklahoma in 1900; then came to Sayre in 1910, after her husband, J. W. Lowry died Oct. 1, 1908. Mother Lowry was a sweet Christian MOTHER, gave her life to christian service and her family. She was loved by all who knew her. She was the mother of 12 children, two of whom have preceded her in death, one child at the age of two years, and Sam Lowry who died in 1922. She also reared one granddaughter, Mrs. Will Richerson from infancy. Funeral services will be held from the Methodist Church at Delhi, Oklahoma, of which church she was a Charter Member, at three o'clock Thursday afternoon, April 7, 1927. (14 Apr 1927, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Mrs. Narcissus Elizabeth Reeves was born September 3, 1850, at Fulton, Mississippi, and died at Sayre, Oklahoma, April 5th, 1927. She was united in marriage to John W. Lowry on January 19, 1871. To this union were born twelve children, eight boys and four girls, two of whom preceded her to the better world. One died at the age of two and one-half years and the other, S. W. Lowry, passed away at Savanna, Oklahoma, in September, 1922, at the age of 49 years. Mother Lowry leaves surviving her ten children, as follows: W. O. Lowry, of Port, Oklahoma; Mrs. Charles B. Cruse of Perkins, Oklahoma; Mrs. H. C. Webb of Phoenix, Arizona; S. O. Lowry and Garvin Lowry of McAlester, Oklahoma; Mrs. Bob Allen of Willow, Oklahoma/ Mrs. Jim Stickland of Pampa, Texas; Bob Lowry of Olney, Texas; J. I. Lowry and Tom Lowry of Sayre, Oklahoma. She also reared from infancy, Mrs. Will Richerson, of Sayre, Oklahoma. She leaves fifty-five grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, many other relatives and a host of friends to mourn her departure. All the children and sixty other near relatives attended the funeral to say good bye to mother for a little while. Mother Lowry moved with her husband and family from Texas to Oklahoma in the year 1890. She moved to Delhi, Oklahoma, in 1900, where her husband homesteaded a farm. Mr. Lowry passed away October 1, 1908, at Delhi, and two years later Mrs. Lowry moved to Sayre, where she made her home until death. She was truly one of the great pioneer mothers who came to this country in an early day and suffered many privations and hardships, that her family might have a better chance in life. She was a loving wife and mother. To rear a family of 12 children to manhood and womanhood to occupy a respectable place in society is no small task. She professed faith in Christ and united with the Methodist Church at the age of 12 years and all through her active life she gave herself unreservedly to the interest of her church. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
