All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ********************************************************************* MARSHALL, SYLVESTER (2 Jul 1925, Sayre Journal, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Sylvester Marshall was born in Canada in 1844. His death occurred in Sayre, Oklahoma, June 21st, 1925. He was 80 years, 6 months and 27 days of age at the time of death. He joined the Civil War at the age of sixteen years, and afterward went to Missouri where he was married to Fannie E. Hosler, 54 years ago. They came to Oklahoma in 1899 and filed on a claim near Berlin where they lived until two years ago when ill health forced him to abandon the farm and he moved to Elk City where he resided until coming to Sayre some five weeks before his death. Mr. Marshall was a good citizen and was liked by all who knew him. He was unfortunate enough to lose his eyesight over two years ago, and dispite (sic) this handicap he lived the rest of his days in peace and happiness. His hearing was also bad. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Hill of Clinton, and five sons, Jim of Delhi, John, Henry, and Dennis of Berlin, Sylvester of Antlers, Oklahoma. Two children have preceeded him into the great beyond, the oldest and the youngest. Rev. W. S. Deatherage of Sayre preached the funeral and said many consoling words to the bereaved ones. He was then laid to rest by the side of his son Charlie who passed away two years ago. (Berlin Cemetery, Roger Mills County).
