All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ********************************************************************* MARTIN, MARY FLORENCE (31 Mar 1927, Sayre Standard, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): MISS MOLLIE MARTIN Miss Mollie Martin, age 68, was laid to rest in the Norman, Oklahoma cemetery Monday afternoon. She has made her home with her cousin Mrs. P. W. Gum here for years and Miss Martin was one of the organizers of the Methodist church, being one of the three charter members. She was an earnest worker in her church and lived a beautiful Christian life. Miss Martin was born in Layfette county, Missouri, on the 11th of June 1859. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Sayre, Sunday morning at 11 o'clock, conducted by Rev. T. N. Weeks. A gathering of her relatives and old time friends attended the services. Many beautiful floral offerings were banked against the altar. COUSIN MOLLIE MARTIN By Rev. T. N. Weeks. Miss Mary Florence Martin was born in the State of Missouri on June 11, 1858 (sic), died March 25, 1927, in Sayre, Oklahoma. When quite young she united with the Methodist Church, of which she was a faithful and devoted member until death. She was a charter member of the local church and taught in the first Sunday school that was organized in Sayre, many of the grown up young people of the community, were members of that, and other classes that she taught, until her health would permit her to teach no more. She was affectionately called by relatives and friends alike - Cousin Mollie. (31 Mar 1927, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): This Highly Respected Sayre Lady Died Early Friday Morning. Miss Mollie Martin, whose serious illness for some weeks past had been mentioned in these columns, died on Friday morning at the home of her aunt, Mrs. P. W. Gum, on North Fourth street. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church on Sunday forenoon, with Rev. T. N. Weeks officiating. Miss Martin was a pioneer resident of this city, coming here some 25 years ago, since which she had made her home with Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Gum, remaining with Mrs. Gum after Mr. Gum's death four years ago. Miss Martin was a niece of both Mr. and Mrs. Gum, her father being Mrs. Gum's brother, and her mother a sister of Mr. Gum.
