Mrs. McClain died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. M. Phillips in Hobart, Oklahoma. The remains were brought here on the noon train last Sunday and taken to Berlin for burial. In attendance at the funeral were Mrs. Phillips, of Hobart, and Mrs. J. B. Early of Norbon, Mo., who are daughters of the deceased. Mrs. Earley's (sic) son accompanied her here. N. E. McClain of this city is a grandson and there are other relatives in the country near Berlin. Mrs. McClain, the wife of Newton McClain, deceased, came to Berlin with their family twenty-four years ago being among the very first settlers in this section of the country. She was widely known by all the old-timers in the county. Her husband died several years ago and in recent years she has been living with her children. She was one who helped to bear the hardships and toil of a new country and to make possible a livlihood in what is now our wonderful country. She is spoken of by those who knew her as a noble and consecrated woman, one who loved home and God alike. The funeral last Sunday was attended by several Sayre and Elk City people. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
