(1 Oct 1914, Sayre Standard, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Death of Mrs. McElyea. The sudden and unexpected death of Mrs. Emma J. McElyea, wife of J. C. McElyea, last Friday afternoon cast a gloom of sadness and sorrow throughout our city among her many friends and acquaintances. Mrs. McElyea was taken suddenly ill Wednesday night and despite the efforts of physicians and kind friends, death came on Friday afternoon. The deceased was born in Randolf county, Ark., and was 43 years of age. She was a member of the M. E. church and was one of the most active workers in the Womans Home Mission society. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and Rebekah lodges of this city. She leaves a husband, two daughters and son and many personal friends to mourn her loss. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church Saturday at 2:00 o'clock p.m. and the remains were laid at rest in the Doxey cemetery.
