All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ********************************************************************* MILLER, EDNA ELIZABETH (6 Aug 1925, Sayre Journal, Sayre, Beckham County, OK): The people of Berlin community were saddened by the sudden death of Grandma Miller, Wednesday evening. Dr. Steele was the attending physician. She was sick only a few hours when she passed away at 3:30 o'clock Wednesday evening, July 22. Grandpa Miller died the 7th day of February, 1923. They were early settlers to this part of the county. Said to be some 26 years ago. Establishing a hotel here shortly after their arrival. They gave up the work some time ago on the account of failing health. Mr. and Mrs. Berry Miller lived with them and cared for them. There were eleven children in the Miller home, all came to the funeral except one daughter who had just gone to her home after spending several weeks with her mother and she said she did not feel like making the trip again as she is in very poor health and the physicians did not think it wise for her to attempt to take the trip. Funeral services were held in the Arbor at Berlin, on Thursday p.m. Where a large crowd gathered to pay its last respects to one who was loved by all. Many and beautiful were the floral offerings, which came from far and near. The flowers were carried by six pioneers, Mrs. J. B. Barns, Mrs. Mary Mackey, Mrs. John Young, Mrs. Shirley, Mrs. Sheehan and Mrs. Alice Blackburn; who stood at open ranks as the casket was placed in the hearse and carried to the cemetery. After which they laid the flowers on top of the grave. The pall bearers were: R. Skinner, D. B. Johnson, Harne Samples, Elmer McGraw, Frank Carmichael and Mr. McFadden. The services were conducted by Rev. Stigler, pastor of the Baptist church of Sayre. Grandma Miller is survived by Mrs. P. B. Buckelin, Berry Miller, of Berlin; Geo. and Ernest Miller of Oklahoma City; Mrs. Ida Grice, Gainsville, Texas; Jake Miller, Spearman, Texas; Mrs. Edna Moon, Canyon, Texas; Charlie Miller of Erick, Oklahoma; several grand children from Alma, Oklahoma and a host of friends. Obituary. Edna Elizabeth Flowers, daughter of Thomas and Kitty Flowers, was born in Gipson County, Tennessee, May 2nd, 1844. She was married to James M. Miller, July 29th, 1860 near Kenton, Tenn. (He died two years ago last February). To this union eleven children were born, eight boys and three girls, eight who survive her being Mrs. Addie Buckley and Berry Miller of Berlin, George and Ernest Miller of Oklahoma City, Mrs. Ida Grice, Gainsville, Texas, Jake Miller of Spearman, Texas. Mrs. Edna Moore, of Canyon City, Texas and Charles Miller of Erick. All but Mrs. Moore were present at the funeral and she had but recently with the other members of the family attended a reunion at Berlin. Several grandchildren from Alma, Okla., were present being Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Miller and Mrs. Alice Armstrong, also Mrs. Pearl Bucklew Ray of Burkburnett. Friends from Elk City in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Blackburn and daughter, Miss Helen, Mrs. Nellie Jones, Mrs. T. L. Johnson, Messrs. Eggers, Lee and Harris, also Frank Carmichael of Sayre, Mrs. Jean Adams and daughter Leslie of Oklahoma City, Mrs. Chas.
