All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ********************************************************************* MOFFETT, WILLIAM PATRICK (1 Aug 1929, Thursday, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): The sudden passing of William P. Moffett of this city Tuesday morning at 11:15 brought sorrow and grief to his family and many friends. Mr. Moffett has recently been operating a filling station on north Fourth street and upon returning home from work Monday evening was not feeling well. Mr. Moffett was born at Edinburgh, Ind., September 2, 1864, being 64 years of age at his death. He later moved to Loxa, Ill., where he lived until a young man, going then to Kansas City. There he married Margaret Lund and five of his seven children were born there. In 1904 the Moffetts brought their family to Oklahoma, home-steading a piece of land in Roger Mills county near Grimes. There they worked and pioneered as the early settlers, living in the small one or two roomed house as their neighbors did. There the family lived until moving to Sayre about twelve years ago in order to send the children to school. Since that time Mr. Moffett has been in the retail gas business working at various places of business here. Mr. Moffett and his family are well known in Sayre and have many friends. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and always was a man of high character. He was always ambitious that his children received an education, all of them graduating from the Sayre schools. He is survived by his wife and children: Mrs. Mildred O'Kelley of Ft. Worth, Texas; Mrs. Rose Leeper of Richmond, Ma.; Miss Marie Moffett, Assistant Superintendent of City schools; Redempta Moffett, librarian at school; Clella Moffett, W. P. Moffett of Los Angeles. Six grandchildren: Betty Frances Leeper, Neil Moffett Leeper, Rose Marie O'Kelley, Jimmie O'Kelley, Pattie Lou O'Kelley and Billie Moffett and a sister, Mrs. James Guiney of Charlestown, Ill., also survive him. All of the children will be present at the funeral. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11 o'clock from the Sacred Heart Church with Father Geeaert of Elk City officiating. Pall bearers will be: J. F. McGrath, P. F. Devanney, A. M. Cuff, W. J. McAnerny, Howard Jarvis and George Jarvis. Burial at Sayre-Doxey cemetery. Littrell and Moore will be in charge.
