All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ************************************************ NICHOLSON, JOHN KIRKE (Sep 1926, Sayre Newspaper, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): John Kirke Nicholson died at Sayre, Oklahoma, September 21, 1926, and was buried September 22 in the Buffalo cemetery near Sweetwater. Mr. Nicholson was born March 17, 1850, in Clay county, Kentucky, the eldest child of Leonidas B. and Salina C. Nicholson, and was raised in that county, and was married there in 1870 to Miss Mary Catherine Bruner, with whom he lived fifty-four years, she dying at Sayre, Oklahoma, December 16, 1924, and he was buried beside her. He was for some years a justice of the peace in Clay county, Kentucky, later moving to Laurel county, Kentucky, was justice of the peace in the Hazel Patch District of that county, coming to Oklahoma in 1911 and locating near Sayre. His second marriage was to Eleanor, sister to his first wife, and is survived by her, and one son and two daughters, Robert George Nicholson, Cooksville, Texas; Mrs. Julia A. Branson, Sayre, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Myrtle Roberts, Mayfield, Oklahoma. His eldest son, Elijah died at Hazel Patch, Kentucky; and his youngest son, James F., died at Sayre, Oklahoma, September 23, 1924. At his funeral were nineteen grandchildren and a large number of relatives and friends, and the services were conducted by Geo.
