(6 Sep 1923, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Perry Noffsinger has been in poor health for the past three years, but more especially during the past few weeks, and on Saturday last he decided to take the advice of physicians, and left for Hot Springs, Arkansas, to take a course of baths. On Tuesday forenoon his many friends in this city were shocked to learn that a telegram had been received bringing the information of his sudden death at 9:30 that forenoon. Mr. Noffsinger had been a resident of this city for the past 21 years, coming here as bookkeeper for the Western Lumber Co., and succeeding to the local management, which position he held until failing health caused his retirement. About three years ago, we believe in April, 1920, he was injured in an automobile accident, from which he never fully recovered, and these injuries undoubtedly contributed largely toward his death at this time. Mr. Noffsinger was born at Claremont, Missouri, and came to Oklahoma at the opening in 1889. During his residence here he had gained a wide acquaintance over the entire trade territory tributary to this city, and a host of personal friends, who extend sympathy to Mrs. Noffsinger in her bereavement. The remains were brought to Oklahoma City yesterday, where he formerly resided, and funeral services will be held there today, he having expressed a wish to be buried at that place, beside a brother who died some years since. (Daily Oklahoman, Oklahoma City, Okla., of Sept. 6): Perry R. Noffsinger, 62 years old, died in Hot Springs, Ark., Tuesday. His home was at Sayre, Noffsinger formerly lived in Oklahoma City. The body will be sent to Oklahoma City Thursday. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10 o'clock at Street and Draper chapel, conducted by Rev. S. J. Porter, pastor of the First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Fairlawn cemetery. Noffsinger leaves a widow, Mrs. Carrie Noffsinger. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
