(3 Mar 1930, Monday, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): W. A. Poindexter, aged pioneer of Beckham county, passed away Friday at the home of his son, W. T. Poindexter, Clinton Real Estate man, at Clinton. Mr. Poindexter was a pioneer settler in this part of the county. He came to Beckham county in 1884, settling up the farm on which the city waterworks are now located. Built First Hotel Here He lived here a number of years, leaving for awhile to homestead with the opening of the Indian Territory. He built the first hotel in Sayre on the site where the M & M Filling station is now located. He operated the hotel known as the "Poindexter", 12 years and later built the Palace rooming house, now operated by Mrs. G. L. Kirby. He was one of the civic and business leaders of Sayre in his day. He not only was engaged in the hotel business but devoted a part of his time to the real estate and insurances business. Was Respected Citizen Mr. Poindexter left Sayre 12 years ago and has since lived with his son at Clinton. He was a member of the Christian Church and will be remembered in Sayre as a good citizen and town-builder in ever respect. He was buried beside his mother, wife and oldest son, in the Sayre-Doxey cemetery.
