Price of Elk City was called to Delhi last week because of the serious illness and death of his mother, Mrs. Eliza M. Price, wife of the late J. H. Price. She was living at the home of her son-in-law, Roy Bell, at Delhi at the time of her death. The deceased leaves five sons, J. M. Price, Mt. Pleasant, Texas; E. L. and L. B. Price of Oklahoma City; J. N. Price of Norman and Rev. W. S. Price of Elk City, and two daughters, Mrs. Mattie Baggett of Geronomo, Okla., and Mrs. Roy Bell of Delhi, Oklahoma. Mrs. Price was raised in Mississippi, she lived in Arkansas twelve years, coming to Oklahoma in 1892. She was married to J. H. Price in 1872. For some time she had suffered from asthma, but was always so patient. She joined the M. E. Church, South when ten years of age, and was a true consecrated Christian woman, loved devotedly by her children and many friends. Just before passing away she sang "Jesus Lover of My Soul" and told the children not to mourn for her. The Price family have been prominent in the Delhi community for many years. Mr. Price started the first Sunday school in that vicinity. They have made a wide acquaintance and the news of Mrs. Price's death was received with sorrow by her acquaintances and deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved ones. (20 Jan 1921, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Eliza M. Price, born Sept. 7, 1852, departed this life, January 5, 1921. She was converted at the age of 10 years and united with the M. E. Church South, and was a consistent christian all of her life. She was loved by all who knew her, and she was known throughout Beckham County. She was a kind, loving mother and a blessed kind neighbor and friend to the poor and needy, and never turned any one from her door with unsupplied needs. The funeral services were conducted at the Delhi Methodist church by her pastor, and she was followed by a large concourse of people to the Delhi cemetery where she was laid to rest by the side of her companion, who had preceded her several years before, to await the resurrection morn. Sister Price was a pioneer resident of Delhi, coming from Arkansas in 1892, when this part of Oklahoma belonged to Texas. She saw it develop from a cow man's land into the great productive farms of today. She was married June 2nd, 1872, to J. H. Price, and was the mother of 11 children, 4 had preceded her to the better land. Before her death she asked her children not to weep as she was going to rest, and just a few hours before passing away she sang, "I'm Going Home to Die No More." May the blessings of God rest upon the bereaved family. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
