(14 Aug 1913, Thursday, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): The many friends of J. E. Pullen will be pained to learn that he has suffered a stroke of paralysis, and is in a very critical condition, in fact, his death is hourly expected. It will be remembered that a few weeks ago Mr. Pullen suffered the amputation of his right arm, in the effort to stop a cancer on that arm, and while he got along very well for a time, he has never recovered from that operation. (21 Aug 1913, Thursday, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): In our last issue we noted the serious turn which the illness of John E. Pullen had taken, and the fact that his death was momentarily expected. Just as we finished the printing of that edition news that he had passed away came, but of course, too late for use in that issue. Mr. Pullen was one of the old residents of this section, having lived on the farm where he died for twelve years, during which time he had made a host of warm personal friends by his frank and genial disposition, and by his straight-forward dealing with those with whom he came in contact in a business way. The funeral services were held from his late residence Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. T. Means of this city with interment at the Berlin Cemetery (Roger Mills County). --Mrs. Ruth Hardy, who was called here to attend the funeral of her father, J. E. Pullen, returned to her home at Amarillo, Texas, on Tuesday. (21 Aug 1913, Thursday, Sayre Standard, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): John E. Pullen, one of the early settlers in this county and a man universally respected by all who knew him, died at his home five miles north of this city at 5:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Pullen had recently returned from Oklahoma City where he underwent an operation for cancer. Funeral services were held today at the residence and remains laid to rest at Berlin cemetery (Roger Mills County). --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
