Riefkohl, age 38, for the past seven years one of the leading figures in our city and manager of the Farmer's Co-operative Store, died at the family home on North 4th Street, Saturday morning about 7:30 just at the break of a new morn. Riefkohl was a much appreciated man to his friends and business associates and his death was a distinct shock to many who were unaware of his serious illness. He served the past year as one of the directors of the Chamber of Commerce and took a very active part in the affairs of the organization, especially so in the promotion of the Trades Days which he believed of so much benefit to his city. Born at Austin, Texas, in 1888, his family moved to the Indian Territory while he was a boy. Since growing to manhood he lived at Canute and later to Buffalo, at which he was married to Miss Neva Scott, in 1913 and she was his helpmate in the promotion of the store here. Two children were born unto them, Lois Marie, now 13, and Inez, who was killed in a car accident here in 1924. Mr. Riefkohl was a man possessing strong character. He has been connected with the Farmer's Co-operative Store here in various capacities during the time the family has resided here and it was due mostly to his untiring efforts and business ability that the local concern enjoyed a fine business and is one of the most patronized stores in our city. Surviving Mr. Riefkohl is his wife, Mrs. Neva Riefkohl, his daughter, Lois Marie, his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. A. Riefkohl of Glendale, Arizona, and a sister, Mrs. Frank Hargrove of Elk City. Other relatives in attendance at the funeral were; Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Sober and family of Oklahoma City; Mrs. Ellan Cook and daughter of Cheyenne; Mrs. Nelson Mandrell of Buffalo; Mrs. Riefkohl's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Scott and children; Mr. Guy Scott and family of Butler. Mr. Riefkohl's mother of Glendale, Arizona, was not able to be here on account of advanced age. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, January 2nd, with Rev. J. T. Means officiating. Interment was made in the Sayre-Doxey cemetery. - In the article of Mr. Riefkohl's death on page one we stated that Mrs. Frank Hargrove was a sister; however, Mrs. Hargrove is the sister of Mrs. Riefkohl. In addition to these relatives listed as surviving Mr. Riefkohl, is a brother, Nugent Riefkohl and a sister, Mrs. L. L. Hooper, both of Glendale, Arizona, another sister, Mrs. Puyear of Devanport, S. D., two half brothers, J. L. and John Cook of Raymondville, Texas. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
