(9 Jun 1927, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK) On Saturday afternoon Chas. H. Sayers was talking with a number of friends on the sidewalk in front of the Sayre Wholesale Grocer Co., when he was seen to gasp, reel and fall before bystanders could catch him. Physicians were immediately summoned, but he had passed away before their arrival. Mr. Sayers had not been in the best of health for some little time past. For some months he had been working at Pampa, Texas, but returned to this city some six or eight weeks since, informing the writer that he was not feeling right, and had come home to take a good rest. Since his death we have learned that he has since his return been doctoring for high blood pressure, which was unquestionably the cause of his death. Funeral services were held at the Doxey-Sayre cemetery at 1:30 on Monday afternoon, with Rev. G. W. Nichols officiating. Interment was at the same place. Charlie Sayers, as he was familiarly known, was a pioneer resident of this section, and he was a quiet, unassuming gentleman, big-hearted and strictly honest, and more cannot be said of any man. He was a native of Alabama, having been born at Birmingham on June 11, 1868. He is survived by eight children all grown to man and womanhood, three of whom are daughters and five sons. (9 Jun 1927, Sayre Journal, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): DIED. Funeral services for Charles H. Sayers, aged 58 years, 11 months and 23 days were held at the Doxey-Sayre cemetery Monday, June 6th, at 1:30. Rev. G. W. Nichols conducted the services. The deceased had been a resident of Sayre for a number of years and his death came as quite a shock to his friends. He died of heart failure while down town last Saturday afternoon. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
