All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ************************************************ SEARS, ERNEST WILLIAM (16 Jun 1930, Monday, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Word was received this week of the death of Rev. Ernest William Sears in Sulphur on May 30 following a serious illness for three weeks. Sears was formerly pastor of the first Christian church of this city. He served the people here for a number of years and was a favorite among the residents of Sayre. His death came as a surprise to his friends here, had been in bad health for several months and had been confined to the hospital for the past three weeks. He had been serving the church at Sulphur for over a year having moved there April 1, 1929. Sears was born in Harrodsburg, Indiana, on April 3, 1871. He received his high school work in Bloomington, Illinois and graduated from India University in 1895. His training for the ministry was received at the college of Bible at Lexington, Kentucky. Since his graduation from school he has served many churches and in a large number of states in the United States. Funeral services were held in Sulphur with the Ministerial Alliance, in that city, of which he was president, in charge of the service. From there the funeral party went to Vienna, Illinois where the body was buried, Monday June 2. Sears is survived by his aged mother, two brothers, a grown son Parker and his wife. Parker will be remembered by the young people in Sayre having graduated from the high school here. He is working in Oklahoma City.
