Seely, wife of Chas. J. Seely, and a member of the firm of Seely & Seely, publishers of The Headlight, died at her home on Broadway, on Sunday last after an illness of ten days. While at Elk City two weeks ago, assisting in the publication of The Headlight, Mrs. Seely contracted a severe cold which later became a case of flu. Last week Tuesday pleurisy set in, and on Wednesday pneumonia developed. She was attended by Dr. DeWitt Stone, a trained nurse and the best neighbors ever granted any person, but poor health during the past five years had sapped her vitality, and their combined efforts were unavailing. Mrs. Seely was born at Sand Lake, Michigan, June 19, 1879, was educated in the schools of Luther, Michigan, and after graduating from high school started in to learn the printer's trade, to which she devoted the remainder of her life. She came to Sayre September 10, 1909 - our citizens knew her, and know our loss! Funeral services were from the home on Broadway at 4 p.m., Tuesday and were conducted by Rev. Tom Steele, former pastor of the Methodist church of this city, who was called from Blair. That night the husband left with the remains for interment at her childhood home at Luther, Michigan. (5 Feb 1920, Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): DEATH OF MRS. C. J. SEELY Mrs. Lena M. Seely, wife of Chas. J. Seely, and a member of the firm of Seely & Seely, publishers of the Sayre Headlight, died at her home in that city after an illness of ten days of influenza followed by pneumonia. Mrs. Seely was born in Sand Lake, Michigan, June 19th, 1879, and was educated in the schools of Luther, Michigan, after which she learned the printer's trade. She ably assisted her husband in the publication of the Sayre Headlight and since that office was destroyed by fire Thanksgiving, she has been accompanying him to the News Democrat office each week to assist in getting out their weekly edition. She was such a dear sweet lady and we were always glad to have her with us, and it is hard for us to realize she is gone. Mr. Seely has the deepest sympathy of the News-Democrat editors and force. Mrs. Geo. Sailor is assisting in getting out the Headlight this week, while Mr. Seely accompanies the remains of his wife to Luther, Michigan, for interment. In telling of the funeral services, Mrs. Sailor says: Before starting on the long journey to her last earthly resting place in the state of her nativity, simple though impressive services in honor of Mrs. C. J. Seely were held at her late home in this city. Rev. Tom Steele; of Blair, Oklahoma, assisted by Rev. Moore of the First Methodist church and Rev. Goodwin, of the Baptist church of this city, were in charge of the ceremonies while a large company of friends listened reverently to the tributes paid to the memory of the dead. (5 Feb 1920, Thursday, Erick Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): We have the announcement of the death of Mrs. Lena M. Seely, wife of Chas. J. Seely of Sayre, on Feb. 1st, 1920. Mrs. Seely and her husband were owners and publishers of the Sayre Headlight. She was a woman of most excellent traits and accomplishments and leaves a host of friends to mourn her departure. She was an active member of the State Press Association and will be missed at our meetings. Her husband has the sympathy of the entire association and a large circle of friends in his bereavement. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Tom Steele at the Seely home Feb. 3rd after which the remains were shipped to Luther, Mich., the deceased's former home, for interment.
