(10 Feb 1910, Thursday, Sayre Standard, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): George Seifert died Sunday morning February 6, at the home of his son, George W. Seifert, in this city. Mr. Seifert was 78 years old, having been born in Germany in 1831. He came to the United States in 1855, and before coming here about three years ago his home was in Nebraska, where another son and daughter live. The remains were sent to Nebraska for interment in compliance with a wish expressed by Mr. Seifert before his death. (11 Feb 1910, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): George Seifert came to America in 1855 and in the same year was united in wedlock to Anna D. Ernst of the city of Baltimore, Md. In 1856 and 57, he moved to Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa successively and later back to Wisconsin again leaving there in 1860 for St. Joseph, Mo. He resided there 12 years going to Lincoln, Nebr. in 1872, which latter place was his home till 1907, when he came to Oklahoma to live with his son Geo. W. Seifert. He withdrew from all church and religious organizations early in life and in the early 70's took up the advocacy of the Spiritualistic doctrine of which he was a devout and faithful follower. Slow to make friends, yet was generous to a fault once the way to his affections was reached. May his ashes rest in peace. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
