(17 Oct 1923, Sayre Standard, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): In the death of William L. Sheehan, October 14, 1923, at the family home here in Sayre, marked the passing of another one of Beckham county's pioneer citizens. The deceased was born in Kentucky, June 27, 1853, and moved with his parents to Missouri at the age of three years, resided in that state until the opening of the Oklahoma country for settlement in 1889, coming with his family to Beckham county and filed on a homestead six miles north of Sayre, where he continually resided until eight years ago, at which time he gave up farming and moved to Sayre. William L. Sheehan was the father of five children, two of whom Walter and Luther have preceded him in crossing the river to the great beyond. Three daughters and a faithful wife remain to mourn the loss of a devoted husband and father. They are: Mrs. Lucy Tissel (sic) of Wichita, Kansas; Mrs. Rena Viers of Berlin and Mrs. J. F. Draper of this city. The Rev. Haddock, pastor of the Christian church of Erick, conducted the funeral and burial was made in the Lone Oak cemetery, northwest of Sayre. (18 Oct 1923, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): W. L. Sheehan died at his home in this city on Sunday morning last after an illness of a few weeks, at the age of 70 years. Funeral services were held Monday forenoon from the residence, with Rev. J. L. Haddock, of Erick, officiating. Interment was at the Loan (sic) Oak cemetery. Mr. Sheehan was one of the pioneer residents of this section, coming here before the city of Sayre was in existence, and locating on a claim six miles north, where he resided until about eight year ago, coming to this city, where he has since resided. Mr. Sheehan was born in Kentucky, but moved with his parents to Missouri when three years old, residing there until he came to Oklahoma. Besides the aged wife he leaves three daughters, Mrs. M. Fissel of Wichita, Kansas; Mrs. J. F. Draper, northwest of this city, and Mrs. T. J. Viers of Berlin.
