All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ************************************************ SIMMONS, CHARLES (4 Jan 1912, Sayre Standard, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Death of Charles Simmons Charles Simmons was born in Anderson county, South Carolina, February 4th, 1836; died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. T. W. Poarch, Jan. 2, 1912. He was married to Lydia E. Simmons, Oct. 4, 1855. They moved to Cass county, Texas, in 1870, where they remained for six years, then moving to Grayson county, Texas, where his wife died August 11th, 1895. To this union ten children were born, six boys and four girls, all living but one, Joseph, who died at the age of 27 years, November, 1894. The remaining children are J. W. Simmons, Memphis, Texas; J. S. Simmons, Comanche, Okla.; Mrs. Mattie Denham, Mountain Park, Okla.; Mrs. Lorena West, Headley, Texas; Mrs. Mary C. Poarch, Sayre; D. M. Simmons, Tishomingo, Okla.; W. L. Simmons, Sayre; Mrs. Pearl Webb, Wellington, Texas; E. C. Simmons, Carter. There are also fifty-three grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. In December 1897, he was married to Mrs. Jane Tanner in Grayson county, Texas. She died August 22, 1911. After her death he came to Sayre making his home with his children, W. L. Simmons and Mrs. Poarch. The deceased was a Confederate soldier throughout the war. He was a member of the Baptist church for forty years and was a consistent Christian. He had the love and respect of all who knew him. Funeral services were held at the Poarch residence on Wednesday evening, and on Thursday morning the remains were taken to Carter, where they were interred, services also being held at the cemetery. (4 Jan 1912, Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, OK): Death of Mr. Simmons Mr. Simmons of Sayre, father of our E. C. Simmons, at the Co-Operative Association, died Wednesday and was buried Thursday afternoon at the Carter Cemetery. He was old and had been ailing for over a year, a good crowd attended the funeral at the cemetery. Mr. Simmons' many friends sympathize with him in his bereavement. (5 Jan 1912, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Died. Tuesday afternoon at 5 o'clock Chas. Simmons quietly passed to the realm of futurity from the home of his daughter, Mrs. T. W. Poarch. Mr. Simmons was 76 years of age, born Feb. 4th, 1836, in good old South Carolina and leaves a family of 10 children who have been summoned to attend the last rites to a beloved father.
