(22 Apr 1915, Thursday, Sayre Standard, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): J. W. SIMMONS Captain J. W. Simmons, aged 70 years, one of the pioneers of Western Oklahoma and a citizen who was universally respected by all who knew him, died at his home at Erick on Tuesday, April 20, and was buried Wednesday, funeral services being held at the Methodist church and conducted by Rev. Stricklin, pastor of the Baptist church. Mr. Simmons served two terms as county commissioner from his district and was a public official in whom the people placed implicit confidence. The respect and esteem in which he was held was attested by the large number of citizens from various parts of the county who attended the funeral Wednesday.
