(30 Jan 1930, Thursday, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Deceased Formerly Undersheriff Of County. Funeral services for William A. Stubbs, 59, former undersheriff of Beckham County, who passed away Saturday at his home in Sayre, were held in Erick at 3 o'clock, Monday afternoon. Rev. A. J. Bradshaw of Sayre and Rev. G. Jordan of Erick conducted services under auspices of Erick Lodge, No. 237 A.F.&M. Interment was made in the Erick Cemetery. Hullum funeral directors of Sayre were in charge. Mr. Stubbs is survived by his wife and two sons. One of his sons lives at home in Sayre and the other is said to live in Oklahoma City. In addition to members of the immediate family, he leaves a number of near relatives that live in Erick and other parts of Beckham county. He served as undersheriff throughout the terms of E. M. Green as sheriff Beckham county. In all the years he served in public office he formed many friends that express their regrets at his passing. Mr. Stubbs was critically ill with pneumonia and influenza for about three weeks prior to his death. (Jake) Stubbs, a resident of this city from 1902 to 1924, and since residing in Sayre, where he died last Saturday were said at the grave here Monday afternoon by the Erick Masonic Lodge of which deceased had long been a member. Mr. Stubbs was a visitor in our city some time back when he confided to friends that he expected to move back to Erick in the near future. On returning home he was seized with a deep cold, soon developing into pneumonia from which he died some three weeks afterward. Deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lena Stubbs, and two sons, Aubrey and Bernard; also the following brothers and sisters: B. T., of Amarillo; D. of Fort Worth; Dr. Stubbs, of Sanger, Texas; Bunk, of Corpus Christi; Pat, of California; and Mrs. Ernest Cook of Fort Worth, also two nephews of this city Wm.
