Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Swetman, Carter pioneer, who died at her home in Carter following an extended illness, will be held Sunday in the Carter Church of Christ at 2:30 pm with Zoma E. Fisk, minister, officiating. Born July 26, 1876, in Dennison, Texas, Mrs. Swetman was married to Sidney Swetman, May 3, 1897, in Texas. She came to Sayre in 1902 and in 1904 moved to Carter, where she has resided since with her niece, Mrs. Laura Widle. She was a member of the Carter Church of Christ. Three brothers, Will, Jim and Tom Broddrick preceded her in death. Survivors are a niece and nephew whom she raised, Mrs Laura Widle and J. L. Brodderick (sic), both of Carter; also, a number of other nieces and nephews. Pall bearers will be Jimmie Taylor, Virgil Smith, Bernard Thompson, Comer Taylor, Frank Crawford and Paul East. Interment will be in the Carter cemetery with Moore funeral home in charge of arrangements." (Note: obituary gives 1897 as marriage year; marriage record has 1896).
