All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ************************************************ TWITTY, ZENAS EDGAR (6 Sep 1928, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Rev. Zenas E. Twitty, age 37 years, three days, died at the home of a friend in Roberts Dale, Alabama, August 31st, at which place he was conducting a revival meeting. Death came suddenly and is presumed to have been caused by a stroke brought on by an infection for sinus trouble. Rev. Twitty was pastor of the local Baptist church for two years prior to the pastorate of Rev. Stigler. He was called again but was attending school at Oklahoma Baptist University at Shawnee. Following his attending school at Shawnee he returned here as assistant pastor and then was called as pastor of the Baptist church at Cheyenne, where he stayed a year. Following his year at Cheyenne, Rev. Twitty went to New Orleans to attend school and obtain his master's degree in Christian education, which degree he would have obtained last spring had not illness interfeared (sic). The family was living at Summer's Dale. A meeting was in progress at Robert's Dale and twenty had been converted before his untimely death. The Twitty family is well known over the county and his mother lives at the old home at Delhi. The funeral was one of the largest ever held in the city. He is survived by his wife, two children, Billie Carl, age 4, and Helen Beth, age 7, his mother, wife, Lula Twitty of Delhi; seven sisters, Mesdames Tommie Blair of Sayre; Avo Bonifield, Carl Lockwood, Hap Lowrance, Fred Hill, Roy McFadden, and Miss Willie, all of Delhi. One brother preceeded him in death and his father, William Twitty died five years ago. Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church here Monday afternoon at 2:30 with Rev. N. S. Wilson officiating and interment made in the Delhi cemetery. (13 Sep 1928, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Zenas Edgar Twitty was born in Berry County, Missouri, August 17, 1891. With his parents he came to Delhi, Oklahoma, at the age of eleven and two years later was converted, uniting with the Delhi Baptist Church. He felt the call to preach at about the age of seventeen-later he made this fact known and was licensed by the Delhi Church, July 13, 1917. He was ordained to the full work at the Gospel Ministry by his church in which great calling he was engaged at the time of his death. He was married to Miss Lula Hastings of Sayre, November 8, 1919. To this union were born two children, Helen Beth and Billy Carl. He departed this life August 31, 1928, while engaged at Robertsdale, Alabama, being, thirty-seven years and fourteen days of age. His father, Deacon W. T. Twitty and his only brother, Cleo, preceded him to the House of many mansions and he leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Mrs. Lula Twitty, their two children, his mother, Mrs. W. H. Twitty and the following sisters: Mrs. W. T. Blair, Mrs. A. F. Bonnifield, Mrs. Carl Lockwood, Mrs. Ed Lowrance, Mrs. Oline McSpadden, Mrs. Opal Hill, and Willie Twitty. Besides these, a host of other relatives and friends are left to bow in submission to the Father's will. He received his training at O.B.U. and at the Baptist Bible Institute of New Orleans, Louisiana. He had almost finished his work there when he was stricken down with the trouble that finally brought about his death. E. D.
