(24 Dec 1910, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Our community was startled Sunday by the announcement of the death of Mrs. Harry Whitehurst at the residence in this city. Though the friends and relatives of the deceased had been aware for several days of the critical condition Mrs. Whitehurst was in, yet hope sustained them in the belief that she might recover. Her sufferings however were too severe for the mortal frame and she fell asleep for the last time on Sunday morning last. Burial services were conducted at the residence by Rev. J. T. O'Bryant on Monday and interment was had in the Doxey cemetery whither the remains were followed by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends. Hannah May Lewis Whitehurst was born in Austin county, Tex. She came to Sayre in 1902 with her father, Mr. Isaac Lewis and was united in wedlock to Mr. Harry Whitehurst in 1904. Two children, Estella, 5 and Martin 4 years old will be taken care of by their aunt, Mrs. Leo Myers. The two families have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in this their hour of trial. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
